Chongwe, 23 May 2025 — The Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre (KATC) successfully conducted a one-day community dialogue focused on the governance and preservation of natural resources in the Kapete bioregion. The event brought together 20 participants, including traditional leaders, lead farmers, and community members from the four villages of Nkondola, Shimwengwe, Njamu, and Chansongo.

The meeting, held in Chongwe, provided a platform for local stakeholders to reflect on critical environmental challenges and share insights on how to safeguard rivers, mountains, sacred sites, agricultural land, and to address the growing concern of illegal soil mining.

The dialogue was graced by the presence of Senior Headman Nkondola, Headwoman Njamu, a representative of Headwoman Chansongo, Headman Shimwengwe, and several dedicated farmers from the region.

During the discussion, traditional leaders emphasized the vital role they play in protecting the natural landscape. “Agro productivity starts with a good landscape,” remarked Senior Headman Nkondola, highlighting the direct link between ecosystem health and agricultural output. He further affirmed, “Local leaders are the custodians of the landscape,” underscoring the responsibility traditional authorities hold in ensuring long-term sustainability.

KATC remains committed to supporting communities in developing agroecological practices that harmonize with local traditions and ecological knowledge. The centre aims to continue fostering community-driven initiatives that protect natural resources while enhancing food sovereignty and resilience in the region.
