Kasisi, 18 June 2025 — Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre (KATC) hosted a dynamic agroforestry field visit for a group of over 15 farmers from Kaoma in Zambia’s Southern Province, working in collaboration with Mendel University from Tschech Republic. The field tour offered hands-on learning and practical demonstrations on how agroforestry can be effectively integrated into smallholder farming systems. The purpose of the visit was to deepen the understanding of the importance of planting trees in farming communities, how to raise agroforestry tree nurseries, and Practical methods of integrating trees into the farming system to boost productivity and ecological resilience.
Participants took part in a variety of field-based activities, including:
- Preparation of growth media for tree seedlings,
- Potting seedlings using polythene pots,
- Planting techniques suitable for different tree species,
- Grafting and budding practices to enhance propagation of fruit and timber trees.

KATC staff guided the participants through each step, emphasizing sustainability and the benefits of agroecological approaches in farming. The visit not only provided technical knowledge but also inspired a renewed commitment to tree planting as a long-term investment in soil fertility, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
